Best Indonesian Food 2018: Bakso Recipe (Indonesian Meatballs Soup)Bakso (baso) is a typical Chinese food Indonesia be meat balls made from tapioca flour mixed with fresh grounded meat. This understanding is based from the origin of the word “BAKSO” are derived from the Hokkien which means Minced pork. But as in Indonesia of pork is not eaten by the majority of the Community (Muslims), the end usually meatballs made of chopped beef, fish, shrimp and chicken.

  • Spring onion, chopped
  • Fried shallot (you can buy from Asian groceries)
  • Kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • Tomato sauce
  • Chili sambal sauce

How to make meatballs:

  1. Sautee the garlic until softened.

  2. Mix the sautéed garlic with the rest of the ingredients, mix well in a food processor (you can use your hands to mix them if you don’t have food processor, just make sure all ingredients mixed well).

  3. Boil enough water in a big soup pot, add the meatballs one by one as you make them. I use spoons to scoop and shape them. And when they start floating, thats when the meatballs are cooked. How to make the broth:

  4. Place all the broth ingredients in a soup pot/deep pot and bring to boil. Add the meatballs.
